Sarek National Park
In late September 2017, I walked into the eastern side of Sarek National Park along the Rapa Valley in northern Sweden
I reached Sarek from the Sitoalvsbron parking lot, about a 3.5 hour drive from Kiruna. The boats into the park and the shuttles for the Kungsleden were ending service this late in the season
The valley walk from Sitalvsbron to Aktse is mostly along a dirt road until the trail narrows near the hut (20 miles return)
Hundreds of reindeer in the park
Aktse below the mountain Skierfe
Once leaving Aktse I had a stretch of bad weather, walking and sleeping in fog for several days in the mountains.. this led to some close encounters with the reindeer herds
Sarek NP contains several of the tallest mountains in Sweden which I briefly could see were snowcapped this time of year
Around four o'clock the clouds parted and the Rapadalen area I had been walking through became visible
The wind was calm so I ended up camping on the summit, the fog returned just as the sun went below the mountains
I was surprised to see clear skies when I looked out the tent in the morning.. I had camped just above the fog line, a great way to end the trip
