Wadi Rum Traverse
In late January I completed a six day loop through Wadi Rum in southern Jordan (75 miles)
January was a good time of year for hiking with temperatures ranging from 30F to 60F. Aside from a windstorm early in the walk the weather was calm and sunny every day
Surprisingly no one leads camels between camps, the owner will tell them to walk across the desert to a different camp and they find their way
The route took six days and was around 75 miles starting and ending at the Visitor Center in the north. Water drops can be arranged in the village before starting the walk. I found Desert Melody in the east (Night 2) and Rainbow Camp in the west (Night 5) to be helpful. Food and supplies can be purchased in the nearby city of Aqaba. I used satellite photos from Google for navigation. I had read that a permit was required to backcountry camp, although when starting to explain my plans at the visitor center the guy waved his hand to cut me off and just asked for money

In terms of camping it doesn't get much better than sleeping on sand
The walk has long water carries, best to plan some climbs to give the shoulders a break (Treks and Climbs in Wadi Rum). Burdah Rock Bridge, a large arch at the top of a mountain, was a highlight.
